Mainly I would say it is part of the ongoing spiritual crisis of the West. Firearms have always been plentiful and not long ago in many areas school kids would bring guns to school for either hunting after class or perhaps target shooting. In the early 1980s my high school gym class would perform archery a few times each year. I don’t recall anyone turning their bow toward their classmates. <br /><br />Many soldiers have sacrificed their lives in defense of our liberty and freedom. In some wars the civilian population were placed in harms way. We should not abandon our rights in exchange for some temporary perception of safety and security.
